The munajats of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) are not mere prayer texts; they are the most sacred and protective spiritual legacy left to the Ummah. These munajats are sincere pleas shaped sometimes in the most heated moments of the battlefields of Badr and Uhud, sometimes in the deep silence of the Tahajjud time, and sometimes with tears for the salvation of an entire community. To cling to this prophetic legacy is, in reality, to directly follow the Sunnah and step under the spiritual umbrella of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH). This legacy not only makes the believer resilient against worldly hardships but also serves as an unshakeable means of intercession (Shafā'a) during the reckoning in the hereafter.
Munajats like the Cevşen, which were revealed at one of the most critical moments in Islamic history like the Battle of Uhud, are considered a divine 'gift.' In those terrifying moments when even heavy steel armor was insufficient, these prayers delivered the message: 'Do not rely on material causes, but seek refuge in the Creator of causes (Musabbib al-Asbāb).' In traditions, the virtues of these munajats are full of good tidings such as protection from disasters, safety from the punishment of the grave, and forgiveness of sins. Yet the greatest of these virtues is that they purify the heart of everything other than Allah (Māsiwā) and increase the proximity (Qurbiyyah) of the servant to their Lord. By reciting these prayers himself and recommending them to his community, the Prophet (PBUH) wanted every believer to don their own spiritual armor.
The Prophet's munajats also serve as an educational model for the Ummah. Every sentence implements the uniqueness, power, and mercy of Allah in the most concise way. A believer acting upon this spiritual legacy is, in reality, receiving a lesson in Tawhīd and 'Ubudiyyah (servitude). The more the Ummah engages with this spiritual legacy, the more individual piety (Taqwa) rises while social peace and blessing also increase. Particularly this collection of munajats, which has reached our time via the Ahl al-Bayt and the companions (Sahaba), has been accepted in every corner of the Islamic world as a 'prescription for salvation.' To personally experience the virtues of these prayers, it is essential not only to read them but to unite them with the rhythm of the heart.
In Islamic literature, traditions stating that reciting certain great munajats 'brings as much reward as having read the four sacred books' underscore how inclusive this legacy is. These prayers unite within themselves the spirit of the Quran, the wisdom in the original Torah, the love at the core of the Gospel, and the depth of the Psalms (Zabur). As an Ummah, preserving this legacy is not only an act of worship but also a sign of loyalty to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Traditions such as writing it upon the shroud or adopting it as a lifelong vird result from the desire for this prayer to accompany the believer at every moment. Ultimately, prophetic munajats are the key to happiness in this world and the hereafter; every word is a luminous step bringing the Ummah one step closer to the intercession of the Messenger of Allah.
